Tangye ENGINES & EQUIPMENT. Tangye produced a Vertical style engine in both Petrol and Oil versions. The Petrol version was fitted with "Throttle Governor" as standard but could be ordered with "Hit and Miss Governor". At a later date Tangye dropped the option for "Hit and Miss Governor" as well as reducing the number of engine HP ratings available.

Today the Tangye steam engine has pride of place at the Works of Olds Engineering in Maryborough Qld Australia. Running with minimal sound, the engine provides an alternative source of power to the electric motor which drives the main line shaft in the machine shop.
Versatile Tangye pumps that operate horizontally or vertically with the pump head down, containing an internal pressure relief valve to avoid over pressurisation. This is one of many Tangye oil engines used by the NSW Government Railways to supply water to operating steam locomotives at depots along the State's very extensive rail system. The first successful internal combustion engines were designed to run on coal gas, which meant they could only be used in cities and towns served by gas mains.
A Tangye catalogue for 1919-1920 includes engines of this type. Tangye Limited was founded in 1857 in Birmingham by businessman Richard Tangye (1833-1906) and his mechanic brothers James and Joseph; brothers Edward and George joined them later.
