-Operation: Stun guns only affect the nervous system. Tasers also disrupt the muscular system. The typical Taser can only fire once per cartridge, while a stun gun allows for repeated, continuous use until the battery runs out. However, Tasers can do the same thing in Drive Stun mode.
The basic Taser for civilian use lets you take a target down from up to 15 feet. But the experts suggest that the ideal firing distance is around 7 feet. This makes it easier to aim and hit the target where it’s most effective. It’s still far enough for the probes to spread and cause more effective incapacitation.
To test your Taser remove the cartridge by squeezing both sides and pulling it out away from the Taser. You can now release the safety to turn it on and activate the trigger. You will see and hear sparks as they arc across the front of the Taser.
With the safety on, replace the cartridge back into the Taser and place the Taser back into the regular place that you store it. Pro tip: Manufacturers recommend this test be done only once a month. However, police are advised to test their Tasers every day.
A Taser without any cartridges will still work as a direct contact stun gun. This means you’re going to get shocked the same as if you got shot by the Taser cartridges. The cartridges themselves simply carry the current down the wires and into the opponent from a range.
On the AIR Taser and Taser C2 the safety mechanism is on the top, and the trigger is a button also located on the top. On all the Taser M18, M26 and X26 models the safety is a lever on both sides with a conventional trigger. For that reason the M18, M26 and X26 models are very instinctive and easy to use.
