It could be a light used for reading, working at your desk, sewing, cooking at your stove, or even tying fishing flies in your garage. Task Lighting should never be confused with the lighting that is providing the basic ambient light in your room.

There are three basic types of lighting: General. Localized-general Local (or task). General lighting provides fairly uniform lighting. An example would be ceiling fixtures that light up large areas. Localized-general lighting uses overhead fixtures in addition to ceiling fixtures to increase lighting levels for particular tasks.

When we talk about home office Task Lighting, it usually comes in the form of a desk lamp. One that specifically shines light on your work area. I suppose this is similar to a reading light, but I am calling it out as separate because the lighting options you may find are specific to a desk.
These lights are totally different from ambient lighting which are used to illuminate the general area. Task Lighting is predominantly useful for seeing fine objects or objects having low contrast. These lights are especially used in software or hi-tech industries where employees have to work for a long time on computers.
The Lighting Handbook. The definition of individual visual tasks for the purpose of lighting design in a room, as provided for in the EN 12464 standard, opens up new perspectives for lighting design. The quantity and quality of light can now be specified exactly for any task area.
Two lamp types are conventional (incandescent) and LED (light emitting diode). Surgical lighting configurations may include ceiling-mounted, wall-mounted, or on floor stand.
For greater mobility, floor standing surgical lights are standalone and typically on wheels enabling them to move room to room. Mobile floor standing lights are often used in examinations. All three types play an important role in illuminating a surgical site during a procedure.
Initially LED surgical lighting used a combination of red, green, blue and white LEDs to achieve a bright white illuminance. This strategy was the primary means to achieve high light output superior to what using all white LEDs could produce.
The approximate dimensions are 400-700mm for a light head diameter and the approximate weight is 45kg. The weight can vary depending on the number of light heads attached to the system. The lifespan of a surgical light is measured in its L70 value, which is how long the light will last until its brightness is 70% of its original value.
