This car, presented in late 1981, was called the Tasmin 200 and was an attempt to make a car cheaper than the standard Tasmin 280i. It was priced at under £10,000, but with an engine producing only about 100 bhp (75 kW; 101 PS) it wasn't a big success. Only 16 Tasmin 200 coupes and 45 convertibles were made in total.
There was a time, however, when the end of the championship season did not mean the end of their racing. Some would head for South Africa, others to the Temporada series in Argentina, but during the second half of the 1960s the most popular and highest-profile choice was the Tasman Series.
The seats were made by Callow & Maddox Brothers in Coventry, who also supplied other British car makers, hence the Tasmin seats appear similar to those used elsewhere but are in fact vehicle-specific, having a narrow but long base bolster. The engine was the Ford 2.8 Cologne V6 with Bosch fuel injection producing 160 bhp (119 kW; 162 PS).
When he returned in 1965, the second year of the official Tasman Series, he was much happier and duly won at Levin, Wigram, Teretonga and Warwick Farm to comfortably claim the title from 1964 champion Bruce McLaren.
It was named after the Tasman Sea which lies between the two countries. The Tasman Series races were held in January through to late February or early March of each year, during the Formula One off season, taking advantage of winter in the Northern Hemisphere to attract many top drivers to summer in the south.
Jim Clark won the 1965 Tasman Series with a Lotus 32B, the Tasman Series variant of the Formula Two Lotus 32, with a 2.5L engine in place of the 32's 1L unit. The Tasman Series (formally the Tasman Championship for Drivers was a motor racing competition held annually from 1964 to 1975 over a series of races in New Zealand and Australia.

The Tasman Cup was the permanent trophy awarded to the winning driver.
