Electrode Placement. TDT can provide an electrode kit with suitable needle electrodes for ABR testing. One electrode is required for each channel, plus one for Ground and one for Reference. The electrodes should be inserted just under the skin and connected to the appropriate input on the Medusa4Z.

TDT recommends disposable, 12 mm long, 27 gauge needle electrodes with 18" color coded lead wires. In general, selecting the shortest available lead wires helps keep the noise floor as low as possible. Some test protocols using small subjects, such as mice, may find that 29 gauge electrodes are more workable.
The TDT system for ABR recording is designed to minimize noise at every step, beginning with an optically isolated, battery powered Medusa4Z preamplifier. This device digitizes the biologic responses right in the enclosure.
When working with a TDT System, you will need electrodes with 1.5 mm female safety connectors (also known as Touch-Proof connectors) to be used with the Medusa4Z. TDT recommends disposable, 12 mm long, 27 gauge needle electrodes with 18" color coded lead wires.

Fiber Photometry: An imaging technique used to monitor neural activity of specifically-targeted cell populations. Fiber photometry uses excitation light from implanted fiber optics to record fluorescent activity of genetically-encoded calcium indicators (GECI) in neuronal populations.
Fiber photometry is a low light power application, so the max output does not need to be very high. Setting the output ranges to 200 mA or greater should work well for most modern setups. Common light sources – 405 nm (autofluorescence detection, isosbestic control), 465 nm (GCaMP), 560 nm (TDTomato, mCherry, RCaMP).
Photobleaching (Patch Cords): The process of exposing a fiber optic patch cable to high levels of light (500mA) for a long duration (~4 hours) to reduce auto fluorescent emissions from within the cable. Demodulated: The demodulated signals are your response waveforms.
