With the IKEA Tradfri Gateway you can connect your IKEA smart lighting to your home network and control it all with the app on your phone or tablet or by speaking to Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant.
Here's where you'll find answers to common questions about the heart of your smart home. You can use your smart products with physical remote controls. But if you want to connect them to your mobile device, you need to download the app and have the TRÅDFRI gateway.
For example, the gateway has three lights for power, internet, and network, which appears to refer to the TRADFRI network. The network light is pulsing, and according to the print manual (the app doesn't say anything about this), it means that no connected TRADFRI devices are found which is correct because I haven't gotten that far.
TRÅDFRI gateway and the IKEA Home smart app allows you to control all your IKEA Home smart products with a smart phone or tablet. You can control your smart products individually or group them.
TRÅDFRI gateway and IKEA Home smart app work with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Sonos. For best performance we recommend to maximum connect 50 devices to your TRÅDFRI gateway.
First of all, the IKEA Trådfri app works over the local network only. You won’t toggle devices from work unless you link your IKEA Trådfri Gateway to Alexa or Google Assistant and do it via their interfaces. It’s not a deal breaker, but a rather strange design choice.
Ikea sells a Gateway for its lighting system, which promises to be able to do exactly that. You get it together with a Smartphone app for around 30 dollars. First, pair your Remote Control with the Gateway and with all your bulbs. Now we have to find the IP address of the gateway.
