The United States Trustee Program is a component of the United States Department of Justice that is responsible for overseeing the administration of bankruptcy cases and private trustees. The applicable federal law is found at 28 U.S.C. § 586 and 11 U.S.C.
The Census Bureau’s Median Family Income Data accessible through the “ Means Testing Information ” page has been updated. The U.S. Trustee Program will apply the updated data to all cases filed on or after April 1, 2021.
In addition to the twenty-one United States Trustees, the program is administered by the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees (EOUST), located in Washington, D.C., and 95 field offices. The United States Trustee is the federal official charged with enforcing civil bankruptcy laws in the United States.
The United States Trustee Program extended the temporary waiver of the federal statutory requirements for credit counseling and personal financial management education for consumer bankruptcy filers in the District of Puerto Rico and the District of the Virgin Islands due to the effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
