AS/NZS3500.4 (cited as NZ Building Code Verification Method G12/VM1) specifies certain requirements for safe tray wastes and for placement of water tanks in safe trays.

In cases where there is a rapid release of water, such as when opening relief valves at full pressure during system testing, some localised and temporary entry of water may occur into the safe tray. Any such splashing that may occur in such circumstances will be safely contained and drained as noted above.
