VAMPires can take the form of rats, bats, mist or smoke in cloud form (whole body or occasionally part of their body) or a single giant or regular bat, wolf (or a werewolf looking creature), giant or regular rat or a bat-like demon. Some can even turn their hands.
Heat-sensing pits in its rudimentary noseleaf enable a VAMPire to select areas of the body of its prey where the blood is closest to the surface. VAMPires are among the most agile of bats and are well-adapted for moving on the ground, a characteristic often needed to approach prey without detection.
Most VAMPires are nothing more than normal men or deranged corpses but some have such ability to turn to bats. The composition does not always contain bats but rather some small bat-like things, one kilogram means five to six bats. A VAMPire's emotional expressions are less expressive than humans.
The reasoning for the name is simple; these particular bats feed on blood – as did the mythical VAMPire, which was popular in early modern European folklore at that time. Many European explorers came across the creatures and wrote accounts of their experiences with said VAMPire bats, which usually involved a lot of blood.
Like their Draculian counterparts, a small number of bat species actually subsist on animal blood - VAMPire bats have been known to attack humans on occasion - using sharp teeth to cut into the sleeping victim. Their nocturnal ways and connection to Ozzy Osbourne probably don't help either. [Flying Mammals: Gallery of Spooky Bats]
However, the beginnings of the VAMPire-bat association are relatively simple. When the Americas were discovered by Europeans in the late 15 th and 16 th Centuries, explorers found the presence of the ‘Desmodus Rotundus’ in Central and South America, the creature that would later become known as the ‘VAMPire Bat’.
Large or small, bats suffer a reputation problem. Aside from being associated with VAMPires, they’re often called “flying rats” and blamed for the spread of zoonotic diseases into humans (including COVID-19, though whether that blame is founded is as of yet unclear.)
