Harden began his career on a radio station in Perry. He worked briefly out of state and in public relations for a very brief time. He was on KRNT for a number of years before joining 1040 WHO as morning host and program director.
He has taught and spoken in many churches and denominations, but has always insisted on teaching straight out of the Bible, which he calls "our owner's manual." He and his wife Denise have three grown children, five grandchildren and live in his childhood home in Iowa.

Words can't express how much I appreciate that." Maxwell Schaeffer and Amy Sweet will replace Van Harden when he retires from his WHO morning radio show in January. The two will be reprising the on-air partnership they shared co-hosting a morning show for more than a decade at KIOA.
As always, my door is open. Van is married to Becky and has three grown children and six grandchildren. He lives in the house where he was raised after his parents brought him home as a newborn from Iowa Methodist Hospital. He has the odd distinction of living in the same house three different times.

Under Van's leadership WHO Radio has won thirteen national Marconi awards from the National Association of Broadcasters, five of which were awarded to him personally as medium market personality.
As an adult, he attended Drake University in Des Moines where he received a B.A. in Radio TV journalism in 1973. In 1971 Van got his first radio job at KDLS FM in Perry, Iowa, and after graduating from Drake, was named Program Director at the station.
