Vanderbilt’s official colors are black and gold. The black is a pure black and remains so regardless of the application. The official gold does vary depending on the application. For print, the preferred gold is a metallic spot color.

Understanding By Design, or UBD, is a framework and accompanying design process for thinking decisively about unit lesson planning. The concept was developed by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins, and as part of their principles they state that UBD “…is not a philosophy of education”.
Defined Learning reinforces and supports the Understanding by Design framework for curriculum, instruction and assessment. Through the utilization of performance tasks and related resources, Defined Learning reflects the educational strategies of STEM education and project-based learning.
