Vandersteen speakers are well respected and still in production today. These Model 1's use the best Vifa drivers that were in production at the time. These speakers use a 8 inch woofer to a 1 inch dome tweeter.

The key with these speakers is getting the time-alignment right and that requires some math and experimentation with the rake. On the vandersteen speakers there was not one included, Is it possible to use a single cable. Someone told me to just use the high input. Please HELP !!!

One of the first things that struck me about the Vandersteens was, surprisingly enough, the owner’s manual. I have never seen such a comprehensive, well-written owner’s manual for any piece of high-end hardware, let alone a pair of loudspeakers. It includes detailed guides on positioning (with graphs and diagrams), source material, and maintenance.

The Model 1Ci gets you into classic Vandersteen sound for a very reasonable cost. They are a tower-like design being about 12” wide, 10” deep, and 36” tall. The recommended base will add about 2” to the height. The Model 1Ci is a 2-way design with the tweeter and woofer we talked about in the commonalities section.

The 1C owner’s manual is very good and provides concise directions for obtaining time alignment based on the listener’s ear height and distance from the plane of the speakers. An obvious inference, however, is that the 1C (and probably all Vandersteen speakers) have very small sweet spots.

A speaker crossover takes the incoming signal from the amplifier and sends the correct frequencies to each of the speaker drivers. It should not add any distortion or shift the phase at all, which is a lot harder than it sounds. One of the primary design goals of all Vandersteen speakers is to have absolute phase accuracy.

Serial numbers are not necessarily sequential but are always paired. Note that all model designations had approximately yearly upgrades internally that are neither identified nor archived. -Model 1B’s has a serial number but no letter, in production from 1983-1996.

The 1C's have all the ingredients that make for detailed, lively , yet totally non fatiguing sound. In summation , they have the authority , staging and imaging that is only found in speakers over$ 5000.00 . If you have a chance to buy a pair, don't hesitate.
