Compile the files by typing in the terminal: VCS <file>.v <file_tb>.v In the above example, it should be: VCS Counter.v Counter_tb.v There should be no error presented in the terminal. Otherwise you need to check your code and correct them according to the related message.
If it doesn't tell you what you want to know, We suggest you look through the documentation provided by Synopsis. There is a user guide for VCS available on the LRC Suns in the directory: /usr/local/packages/VCS7.0.1/doc/UserGuide/VCS.pdf .
The Interactivewindow of VirSim should have popped up by now. In the Historypanel, it says $stop at time 0. Whenever you invoke VCS with the -RIoption, the simulation will always be paused at time 0. Open the Hierarchywindow by clicking on Hierarchyunder the Windowmenu. Our design had two modules at the highest level: TOP and timeunit.
