The door will open. Remove the RR inner cover inside the vehicle (RR lamp assembly) and look for the violet/grey with brown wire. That will disable the locking motor and the fuel door will open from that point on without the central locking computer trying the activate the locking motor. Replace the motor if desired. This is a VERY poor VW design.

Make sure all door are unlocked, then gentle place the tongue depressor in the gas door where the locking mechanism is located. Now gently pry the door open, this take a little bit of prying but this will pop the door open.

If tank flap does not open, it can be opened by hand via the actuator -4-. The actuator can be reached by grabbing between the side panel and loosened wheelhouse liner. Removing and installing. Remove the tank cap -2-. Remove the screw -3-. Roll up the boot -5- from the fuel filler tube -4-.

If the actuator has failed then unfortunately there is no cable for the fuel door its all operated by a electronic click push type actuator even if you remove the boot liner trim on that side you may not be able to get the latch to release because these actuators are replaced when the fuel door is open
