Nissan confirmed continuing with the fourth generation iteration of the Pathfinder for the 2021 model year and unveiled a teaser video of the upcoming 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, which is expected to be launched later this year.
Under the hood of every 2021 Tiguan is a turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 184 horsepower; front-wheel drive is standard but Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is optional.
Verdict It's not the GTI of compact crossovers, but the Tiguan has enough VW traits to make it one of our favorites. The compact SUV segment is full of good options, but one of our favorites is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan, which is one of the most well-rounded choices.
The 2021 Ford Explorer, even with a 10-speed automatic transmission and a higher torque, takes the highest time of 7.7 seconds in the 0-60 mph acceleration test. However, since the 2021 Ford Explorer has the highest horsepower and torque, it offers the best-in-class top speed of 143 MPH.
To that end, the Pathfinder receives a comprehensive redesign for the 2022 model year, which Nissan is hoping will put its three-row mid-size SUV in contention with segment leaders such as the Hyundai Palisade, the Kia Telluride, and the Toyota Highlander.
While the 2022 Pathfinder retains the 284-hp 3.5-liter V-6 from the previous generation model, it drops the continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) in favor of a new nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard but all trims can be equipped with all-wheel drive.
The Pathfinder performed well across the board in crash tests, earning a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and a Top Safety Pick honor from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Based on the EPA's metrics, both front- and all-wheel-drive versions of the Pathfinder sit near the top of the class—only the Mazda CX-9 with its turbocharged four-cylinder beats the Nissan in a few categories.
