May 09, 2018 . For narrow band SSB use, in general, I would always expect to see bass cut plus top lift. Incidentally, the 7300 can produce perfectly balanced audio with its own, internal bass/treble controls. In addition, its compressor, working within DSP is pretty good but like any simple compressor, is prone to overshoots. Frank.

The W2IHY kit I believe, has balanced in/out, if you use the two units together, and use a non-yaesu/kenwood/icom mike. There is a three-pin input on the EQ Equaliser (balanced) and the manual for the EQ Plus shows balanced output on pins 1 and 2 of the 5-pin output, which I would then feed into the 1/4” TRS at the rear of the 6600M.

** Addendum** After re-reading the manual I uncovered the following specifications which exceed my intially estimated 300-3000hz. Standard EQPlus is 50hz to 3.5khz. This has a maximum configurable bandwidth than I initially realized which lends to its performance. There is a also a wideband mod that covers 50hz to 8khz.

Uses the same chip as the W2IHY Eq. LOTS of options, hi or lo impedance mic, transformer output or not, plus jumpers to match your radio. Look at all those rear panel connectors! This means you have to read the manual and have patience to set it up; the manual is on MFJ's site.

The W2IHY 8 Band Audio Equalizer and Noise Gate interfaces between your microphone and your transmitter. And it does this intelligently. A 3 position switch on the rear panel lets you choose between Icom, Kenwood and Yaesu microphones. Simply plug in your microphone and set the rear panel switch.
W2IHY gives you a rear panel push to talk (PTT) jack. Use this to connect a foot switch or other control. The PTT control circuit will now reach the radio via the cable described below. The dual output side of the system consists of two 5-pin DIN jacks to hook up two radios at once, if you choose.
There are a total of 3 microphone input jacks on the rear panel including 8-pin, XLR and RCA phono. W2IHY even provides the 5 volt power requirements for models such as HM12 and SM6 electrets and other microphones requiring phantom power.
