This is the regulator side of the cable bundle which uses a beautiful connector. Wakespeed has both P and N type wiring harnesses depending on your alternator type. The wiring harness includes three main groupings – alternator, battery and dash.
The biggest difference with the WS-500 over other systems I have used is the data it utilizes to make charging decisions – battery voltage, battery temperature, alternator temperature and current. Most regulators only the first few, and not the current flowing to/from your battery bank.
The cooperative effort between Wakespeed and Slovenian BMS manufacturer REC enables Wakespeed's WS500 alternator to share connectivity with the REC BMS via a CANbus interface. Through this CANbus connection, the BMS can actively control alternator-based charging to ensure safe and optimal charging of LiFeP04 battery banks.
Inside the regulator is the main control board which includes the DIP switches and also a USB port for computer configuration. You’ll need to access this to configure the unit – either to set the DIP switches or connect to the USB port.

Wakespeed's WS500 regulator firmware revision is now available on the Technical Page of this website. This revision offers multiple advancements and new features that are critical to optimal system performance. We advise all WS500 users to install the new firmware.
The advanced WS500 alternator regulator, with its unique ability to regulate based on voltage, current, and alternator temperature, is by far the most capable charging source for both traditional lead acid and new generation LiFePo4 lithium ion batteries. All Wakespeed regulators are made in the USA.
