Good advice - it is what led me to think that it was the CC providing the >15V and that it might be configurable. The Renogy Wanderer PWM is set to recover after an over-voltage event at 15V and has a charging limit voltage of 15.5V which is 0.1V and 0.6V higher than the threshold that my inverter has for going into fault protection mode.

By adding the BT-1 to the Wanderer-Li, you can now use the smartphone app, DC Home, to monitor and adjust your solar system remotely. With the inclusion of the Lithium Battery Mode, the 30A negative-ground controller is now capable of charging various 12V battery types and banks, including most 12V lithium models available on the market.
PWM charge controllers are the cheapest charge controller option, best for warm sunny weather, and performs best when the battery is near the full state of charge. PWM controllers regulate the flow of energy to the battery by reducing the current gradually, called "pulse width modulation.”
