This General Facilities Information Design Guide (DG 415-5) was published by the National Guard Bureau, Army Installations Division (ARNG-ILI). DG 415-5 applies to all projects for new construction (including additions) as well as alterations to and rehabilitation and conversion of existing facilities.
Water mains on new development sites should only be laid in the standard minimum 1.8m service strips identified by developers, not in the 0.6m service verges, when this is not possible, mains should be laid within the adopted highway.
We’ve produced this guidance to reflect edition 3.1 of the national ‘Code of Practice for the Self-laying of Water Mains and Services – England and Wales’. Once you’ve completed your application to design, we recommend having a look at the range of drawings below that clearly demonstrate how to construct a mains connection to our standard.
A Form 2 is a notification to start constructing a new Water main. A SLO must complete this notification and send it STW to tell us when they are about to start construction on site. This notification should be sent to STW 15 days before any construction work starts. The STW reference number (s).
As an alternative to having new Water mains and service connections laid by us, a developer can arrange for the work to be done by a self lay provider (SLP). The SLP simply needs to be accredited under the Lloyd’s Register Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS).
