The term Crock-Pot® was actually Rival Manufacturing Company's trademarked name, and it is now owned by Sunbeam, a division of Jarden Corporation.
Due to low heat distribution, a crock pot takes a longer time to cook food than a slow cooker. A slow cooker is recommended for cooking soupy food like stews. This is to avoid burning of solid substances like big chunks of meat, which might be spoiled with heat only from the bottom.
Directions In a large slow cooker, place roast beef. Surround your roast with potatoes, onions, carrots, and herbs. Cover and cook on high, 5 hours, or low, 8 hours. Remove from slow cooker and let rest, then slice and serve with vegetables.
The original Crock-Pot was sold by the Rival Company, but Rival did not invent the appliance. Instead, it was invented by Irving Naxon, in 1938, while he was trying to make his grandmother’s “Cholent Stew.” Cholent was the name given to a meal eaten on Saturday, the Sabbath, by Eastern European Jews known as the Ashkenazim.
