A guide to port forwarding on your router can be found on PortForward.com. The Xlink online service is broken up into region, consoles, categories (such as "First Person Shooters" or "Racing"), and individual game arenas.

Xlink Kai was first released in 2003, supporting the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube at launch, with PSP, PS3, Xbox 360 and others support arriving soon after. An Xbox, Xbox 360, or Xbox One console (Many original xbox games work under backwards compatibility on xbox 360 and xbox one!)

First, start by placing a system-link / LAN enabled game in to your console. Proceed to the system-link / multiplayer menu of the particular game, and tell your console to search for games. Leave the console for now, and take a look at the Kai Diagnostics panel within Kai (you must press the metrics).
