The ZEISS IKON is a Leica M-mount rangefinder camera that is much nicer than I expected. It uses every Leica lens made for the M cameras since 1954, as well as Zeiss and Voigtländer lenses made for Leica. The ZEISS IKON is a wonderfully easy-to-use camera.
The product lines of ZEISS IKON Stuttgart were different from the East German company's products. The Ikophot light meters were made in Stuttgart. ZEISS IKON ceased the production of cameras in 1972.
Today, the Zeiss brand is still highly regarded and as such most of their products are appealing to collectors. The Nettar line usually doesn’t go for very much on the used market, but examples in good condition can easily fetch prices as high as $50 on eBay.
Only the A, B, & C models (there is an interim model 520 with shutter release from about 1937). In the early 1950s, the 523 was launched for the B & C models. A chrome top plate with an integral finder and an accessory shoe was added. The 524 series added an uncoupled rangefinder and was also called the "Mess" Ikonta.
Logically, most of the ZEISS IKON cameras were equipped with Carl Zeiss lenses; and the formerly independent companies, in particular Goerz, had to shut down their own lens manufacture. The merged company was also obliged to use Compur shutters for 80% of its cameras.
The product lines of ZEISS IKON Stuttgart were different from the East German company's products. The Ikophot light meters were made in Stuttgart. ZEISS IKON ceased the production of cameras in 1972. This was a great shock for the entire German camera industry.

In 1952 the Tempor was ZEISS IKON's first own leaf shutter development, followed in 1954 by the Prestor, the fastest leaf shutter at this time. In 1948 the company could introduce its advanced SLR model, the Contax S.
