The ideal cooling area for Zero Breeze Mark2 is 25~40 sq ft. If space is larger than that, although the cooling effect of the whole space is not obvious, you can also feel comfortable at a location closer to the air conditioner, especially near the cold air vent. The cool air can be breezed as far as 2m distance when it works at the highest speed.
And so, when I heard about the Zero Breeze Portable Air Conditioner, I had to wonder whether a high-tech fantasy posited nearly a quarter-century ago was finally coming true. The answer is, well, yes and no. A quick visit to Zero Breeze ’s home page reveals the Zero Breeze Mark II unit in the flesh.
Zero Breeze Mark 2 generates 2X stronger cooling power with 2300 BTU and 40% higher cooling efficiency than before. In just 5 minutes, the powerful compressor can reduce the outlet air temperature by 20°F/11°C.
Rooftop air conditioners are great to use at campsites with power supply, and swamp coolers only work effectively in dry areas ...... whereas the Zero Breeze is particularly designed for staying cool off the grid.
At launch, Zero Breeze was praised as a disruptive product, yet this praise was not to be sustained. As the product eventually succumbed to bad reviews and complaints. Most of the feedback highlighted design failures and battery pack life. For instance, even though it claimed to be the coolest portable AC on the market at 1,100 BTU’s.
Zero Breeze Mark 2 measures about 20 x 13 x 8 inches, which isn’t in the neighborhood of a small AC. It also has a substantial weight, clocking 17 pounds on the scale. That’s not including the large battery and adaptor you have to carry along for this “portable” AC.
Zero Breeze Mark 2 lays claim to 2,300 BTU for cooling. In comparison, Mark 1 had 1,100 BTU on offer. The higher cooling power bodes well for this device, though a lot still depends on ambient power. Also, note that the capacity is much lower than regular run-off-the-mill air conditioners.
The other thing you’ll immediately notice: Despite claims to the contrary, the Zero Breeze is loud —much louder than a window AC unit and not much quieter than, say, a small blender. In an enclosed tent, the unit can be deafening. That beefy battery is no joke, though.
