Before buying the Zone VI, I had first borrowed a Tachihara for three months to help me decide if I really wanted to go large format. I could put it, with 150mm lens folded inside, three film holders, cloth, a Nikon FM to use as a light meter(!).. all into a Lands' End cloth attache! Jul 08, 2005 . I had a Zone VI which was actually a modified Wista DX. It was a nice camera subject within its limits. The "Classic" (Era 2) camera is tripple extension and has interchangable bellows. The extension is longer so you can use longer lenses, and with a bag bellows you can use more movements with a shorter lens. But these cameras are heavier.

My Zone VI Studios, Inc. large format camera came with a bail-lever type film back that was permanently attached and could not accommodate other film sizes other than 4x5in. Learning the average tones is fundamental for deploying the Zone System. The Zone system divides a scene into 10 Zones on the tonal scale (though there are variations of 9 and 11 Zones). Every tonal range is assigned a Zone. Every Zone differs from the one before it by 1 stop, and from the one following it by 1 stop.
