MadVRis a powerful DirectShow renderer to to replace the antiquated enhanced video renderer from the Windows XP days. It is crucial to use MadVR as it not just provides powerful scalers and filtering functionality, but also fixes some errors with the default renderer (e.g. 10-bit video has incorrect pixelated chroma with the default renderer).
Same goes for Potplayer (unless there's a security fix or missing must have feature) Then run it as is but configure it to save settings to .ini file. Then add MadVR by running the install.bat as admin. Go into Potplayer and set video renderer as Madshi. Play a video. Right click MadVR system tray and edit required settings.
Guide: Video enhancement (Upscaling and sharpening) using MadVR and Radeon Image Sharpening. + guide link for those who haven't used radeon fluid motion. I couldn't find a beginner-friendly guide on the matter, and thought I'd give it a try. It should work well for upscaling 720p files to 1080p displays and 1080p files to QHD/4k displays.
The guide has 5 main parts: installation, video decoding, audio, MadVR configuration, and reclock (optional). The installation part is really easy, and if you really wanted to keep things simple, you can actually just use the installation section alone and be in decent shape.
MadVR will run fine with default settings but you can tweak them via system tray icon for MadVR if you play a video. It only needs configuring once. It's okay but I see much better playback quality using PotPlayer. So you don't obtain PotPlayer from the vendor website?
During playback click the PotPlayer menu button, then "Filters">"Madshi Video Renderer" or 2.) During playback right-click the MadVR tray icon in the system tray (bottom right corner) or 3.)
For Potplayer the setting's under General in preferences. Both players have a reset function in preferences somewhere if things go really bad, and you can also reset MadVR via a bat file in the folder where MadVR resides. Look for "restore default settings.bat".
The instruction is run Potplayer, open a vid and hit control f1. But that is not shown in the guide-- just the MadVR open window. If this is in error please advise.
