The TransMedics Organ Care System (OCS) is a fully portable, multi-organ, normothermic preservation and assessment technology that mirrors human physiology, minimizes ischemia, and provides the ability to optimize the organ during transport.
Often referred to as a “Heart-in-a-Box”, the OCS™ Heart is a revolutionary system that preserves donor organs. The OCS acts as a miniature intensive care unit that keeps organs alive and healthy by preserving them in a natural state that mimics the human body so that organs can remain viable for transplant along the way to recipients.
The system, OCS™ Lung System, the lung system, and OCS™ are used interchangeably throughout this manual to refer to the TransMedics OCS™Lung System. The system uses consistent conventions throughout the interface and accompanying documentation to make it easy for you to learn and use.
TransMedics Technical User Guide: OCS™Lung System. NOTE—Each fully charged battery provides a minimum of 80 minutes of power, totaling four hours of power with three fully charged batteries under normal operating conditions. Additional batteries can be ordered from TransMedics®as needed.
