RailCom Model Railway Forum

Dec 06, 2011 . The RailCom receiver is able to detect the current using a sensing resistor. The system is arranged such that the voltage that appears across the sensing resistor as a result of the RailCom current is lower than that needed to overcome the forward voltage of each decoder bridge rectifier that remains connected in the locos.

DCC DECODED - ESU WiFi Cab Control Model Railroad

Dec 02, 2017 . DCC DECODED - ESU WiFi Cab Control. Sat, 2017-12-02 07:37 — Tim Latham. TMTV video segments. TrainMasters-TV. I am really impressed with the new ESU WiFi Cab Control setup, but I have a few questions. Matt said the hand controller would ‘look at’ the decoder and read all the settings and function buttons. My question is does that only ...

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can you do with Railcom?

You can communicate with any LCC system to control switches, adjust layout lighting, and anything else that the LCC bus is connected to. RailCom enables bi-directional communication between the command station and decoders. This allows for read-back of CVs while programming on the mainline.

  • How does a command station compatible with railcomplus work?

A command station compatible with RailComPlus displays the locomotive, its functions, and saves them for future use. If the DCC address is already in use by another multi-function decoder in your command station's database, the command station will automatically offer to change the new locomotive’s address to another address which is not in use.

  • Does Ecos work with Railcom feedback?

It works with RailCom feedback, which is available on the ESU V4 decoder series. It seamlessly integrates with 3rd party software used for layout control, dispatching and tuning and maintenance. I used ECoS successfully with Decoder Pro.

  • What does Railcom mean for the TCS command station?

The inclusion of RailCom opens up significant opportunities for future features and expansion. The TCS Command Station is cross-compatible with current hardware from other manufacturers. It currently includes support for up to 62 NCE, Ramtraxx, and/or SystemOne Throttles and Accessories via the on-board RJ-11 connector.

  • What is Railcom and how does it work?

Lenz demonstrated the RailCom concept at a DCC Working Group meeting in the spring of 2000. It has been incorporated into an NMRA RP for Two-Way communications between the command station and multi-function decoders on the track. RailCom is completely backwards compatible with Digital Command Control.

  • What decoders are compatible with Railcom command stations?

A RailCom or RailCom Plus command station. RailCom implies slightly modifying the DCC signal on the tracks. It will remain perfectly compatible with non RailCom decoders, but adds a short electronic “cutout”. So you will need a CS that is either RailCom (or better RailCom Plus) compatible.

  • Is railrailcom an official NEM norm?

RailCom, as said above, is not an official NEM norm. It starts being adopted however by several German manufacturers: This has been around for about 2 years, and is yet another layer on top of DCC.

  • What is Railcom plus by ESU?

RailCom Plus is an enhancement of the Lenz RailCom standard by ESU . RailCom Plus is an improvement over RailCom. It allows a locomotive to be automatically recognized and registered by the command station, previously only possible with Märklin 's MFX standard for their two rail trains.
